Welcome to the Stonehill College Sally
Blair Ames Sports Complex! The home base of Stonehill Recreational Sports (SRS) and
virtually all of the colleges indoor intramural sports, recreation, Club
Sports and fitness activities. The Sports Complex offers over 55,000 square feet of
recreation and leisure space. Having opened in the winter of 1989, the Sports
Complex is still growing and evolving with the Stonehill community. Your ideas and
suggestions are welcome. John Leahy, the Director of Stonehill Recreational Sports (SRS),
is also the Director of the Sports Complex. The SRS Office is located in the foyer. The
facilities and recreational opportunities within the complex are vast and diverse.
RECREATIONAL
SPORTS DEPARTMENT PROCEDURE A.
STUDENTS AND EMPLOYEES 1.
All authorized users are
required to carry and present a valid ID in order to gain access to the
Sports Complex or other Rec Sports facilities. Failure
to present an ID will result in denial of access to the facilities and
possible referral for disciplinary sanctions consistent with College
Community Standards. 2.
All full-time and part-time
3.
Part-time 4.
Students may use any and
all facilities under established guidelines. 5.
Students will be
responsible for knowing and adhering to all rules and regulations for
facility use. 6.
All full-time and part-time
(20+ hours and 9+ months) employees of 7.
All part-time (less than 20
hours) employees of 8.
Part-time employees with
five or more years of employment with 9.
Employees of 10.
Employees will be held
responsible for knowing and adhering to all rules and regulations for
facility use. 11.
College employees wishing
to use the facilities must obtain a 1.
Consistent with College
policy, Recreational Sports requires all 2.
Stonehill identification
cards will be considered membership cards for all 3.
Students with invalid or
expired cards will not be allowed use of, or will be asked to leave the
facilities. 4.
Persons not presenting
identification will not be allowed use and will be asked to leave the
facilities. These persons may be treated as trespassers, if circumstance
warrant. 5.
Eligible employees wishing
to register immediate family members as Sports Complex users, must
complete an application form by contacting the Recreational Sports Office
at 508.565.1064. 6.
For outdoor facilities,
reservations may be required and ID’s must be carried at all times. 2.
Children must be under 18
years of age to qualify as Authorized Users. 3.
Children under 16 will be
allowed to use the facilities during scheduled family hours only. 4.
Children under 16 must be
accompanied and directly supervised at all times (same immediate
area), by at least one parent to use any facility area.
5.
Eligible employees wishing
to register immediate family members as facility users, must complete an
application form by contacting the Recreational Sports Office at
508.565.1064. After the application is approved, those names will be put
in the Membership Rolodex for Sports Complex use, located at the Control
Desk. Upon entering the Sports Complex, registered Family Members must
stop at the Control Desk and present a picture ID. For outdoor facilities,
reservations may be required and ID’s must be carried at all times. C.
ALUMNI PROCEDURE Alumni
may use the facilities as members. For membership details and to become an
authorized user, alumni should contact the Alumni Office. D.
GUESTS All
authorized users may bring in one guest per person per day. 1.
Any person not belonging to
one of the eligible authorized user categories ( 2.
Guests may participate in
informal recreation activities only. Guests have last priority for use of
the facilities and courts for open recreation use. 3.
Any user of the Ames Sports
Complex may bring a guest during normal informal recreation hours. Members
are limited to one guest per person per day. 4.
Guest passes must be
purchased at the Control Desk at a cost of $10.00 5.
A user must accompany the
guest, when purchasing a guest pass. 6.
Valid identification will
be required of the user and guest. 7.
Guest must be accompanied
by members during the entire course of their visit to the Sports Complex. 8.
No one under 16 will be
admitted except during scheduled family hours. Positive proof of age will
be required. 9.
A special weekend guest
pass may be purchased after 12:00 noon on Friday and is valid for the
entire weekend until closing on Sunday. The cost is $10.00 10.
Authorized users are
responsible for the conduct of their guests and for ensuring that guests
adhere to College rules and regulations. If guests violate College rules
and regulations, the Host will be subject to disciplinary action and the
guests subject to removal form the campus and a criminal trespass warning.
All guests must be registered with the College and must carry a
valid photo I.D and approved guest pass at all times. A.
LOCKER FACILITIES PROCEDURE 1. 2.
Lockers are available on a
daily use basis only. 3.
It is strongly recommended
that facility users bring locks for securing their personal items in
lockers. 4.
Users must supply their own
towels and other personal items. 5.
Receptacles must be used
for all disposable items. 6.
Members or guests littering
or improperly disposing of refuse may have their privileges revoked. 7.
Locks left on lockers after
closing will be cut off and a $2.00 per day storage fee will be charged
for all items left in the locker. PROCEDURE 1.
Attire that is commonly
sold for gym clothing is required in all activity areas (i.e. gym shorts
or sweat pants and tee shirts or sweatshirts 2.
Sneakers of athletic
footwear must be worn in activity area at all times. 3.
Cleats or spikes are not
permitted in any area of the Sports Complex. 4.
Any rubber soled athletic
footwear may be worn in the Field House or 5.
Non-marking athletic shoes
only will be allowed on racquet courts. 6.
Absolutely no dark or
marking soled shoes on wood surfaces. 7.
Shoes must be cleaned off
or wiped before entering any activity area. 8.
Shirts may be removed only
during activities in the Field House.
Shirts must be worn at all other times. 9.
For safety and equipment
functionality purposes, it is strongly recommended that users bring a
clean, dry, second pair of sneakers to be worn during their activity. 10.
Recreational Sports
reserves the right to suspend or revoke user privileges of those who
blatantly disregard the clean shoes recommendations. PROCEDURE 1.
Student or employee
authorized users presenting their valid identification cards, will be
allowed to check out, free of charge, any recreational equipment provided
by Stonehill Recreational Sports. Alumni, family or guest users may not
check out equipment. 2.
All borrowed equipment must
be returned within 24 hours or late fees will be assessed. 3.
A $1.00 per day late charge
will be assessed for equipment returned after the one-day period. 4.
A valid identification card
must be left in return for equipment. 5.
Identification cards will
not be returned until equipment is returned or paid for. 6.
Authorized Users will be
held fully responsible for any and all equipment they check out and will
be charged for the cost of replacing any lost, stolen or damaged
equipment, based on a replacement price list. User privileges will be lost
until the equipment is returned or paid for. D.
REC WEIGHT ROOM AND PROCEDURE 1.
Specific rules pertaining
to each area are posted and will be enforced. 2.
Monitors may be on duty
during heavier use periods to enforce all Weight Room and 3.
Monitors are not
instructors and are not authorized to give instruction on any equipment.
Monitors may spot for workouts only when no other assistance is available
and only for a set or two. 4.
During peak usage times,
limits may be placed on equipment use so as to accommodate all exercisers.
The monitor will oversee proper use. These times will be posted. 5.
“Cutting in”,
performing multiple sets, interrupting peoples’ workouts or generally
inconsiderate behavior may result in loss of user privileges. 6.
No one under 16 will be
allowed t use the E.
RACQUET COURTS PROCEDURE 1.
Racquet courts are
scheduled and used on an internal basis only. Exceptions will be made for
team/group workouts or activities that are deemed non-invasive to prime
time racquet play. 2.
All courts are limited to
one hour of playing time per person, per day. 3.
Under no circumstances
shall the door of a court be open while play is in progress. 4.
Persons not observing all
court rules and regulations are subject to loss of privileges and use of
racquet courts. 5.
The Supervisor in charge
will settle any disputes or discrepancies pertaining to court use. F.
FIELD
HOUSE F1.
General Use PROCEDURE 1.
Informal, Instructional,
Club, Intramural, Athletic and Special Event programs will take place
within the Field House. 2.
Most rec activities and
times will be posted on the Rec Schedule available in the Sports Complex
and on the website (www.stonehill.edu/srs). Special events can be found on
the Stonehill College Calendar on the Stonehill website. 3.
During non-intramural
sports times, the Field House functions on an informal recreation basis.
To attempt to accommodate certain structured/recognized groups and
organizations on campus, specific times will be set aside for single court
reservations in the Field House. A.
For priority and procedures on organized/recognized group use, please
refer to Recreational Sports
Policies #1. B.
For informal or non-recognized groups, reservations for certain approved
activities must 4.
No one is permitted to
hang, lean, or sit on the curtains or nets at any time. Violators will be
ejected from the facility and
risk loss of User privileges 5.
Five on five games of
basketball have priority over lesser full court or half court games when
any players are waiting to play.
Players already playing have priority as participants in the full
court game. Additional players
are added on a first come, first served basis. 6.
Activities generally
considered as outdoor activities which are deemed unsafe in an enclosed
gymnasium, are prohibited in the Field House without prior permission or
proper supervision. Such activities include soccer, baseball/softball,
football, Frisbee, golf, etc. 7.
Jogging track rules are
posted and should be observed for safety purposes. 8.
Lane designations and daily
directions will be posted. 9.
In-Line skates may be worn
on the tack, but must be put on and taken off in the Field House. F2.
TENNIS COURTS PROCEDURE 1.
Sports Complex tennis will
be scheduled for both reservation and informal recreational play. 2.
All courts are limited to
one hour of playing time per person, per day. 3.
All courts should be
reserved one day in advance. Courts
my be reserved after the Sports Complex opens for play and for any open
time until closing the next day. 4.
All members reserving
courts in person at the SRS Control Desk, must present a membership
identification card. Phone reservations may be made through the SRS Office
by calling 508.565.1064. You may leave a name, contact number, and
reservation request on the voice message, which will be returned for
request approval. 5.
To claim a court, the
person whose name appears on the reservation must check in at the Control
Desk and present a valid ID. 6.
Failure to check in may
result in forfeiture of court time. A court not claimed 10 minutes after
reserved time, will be lost and then will be available on first come,
first served basis. 7.
Prior notification must be
given for cancellations. Members reserving a court, but not claiming it,
will lose reservation privileges. 8.
The SRS Director, Assistant
Director, or Supervisor in charge will settle any discrepancies based on
the reservation sheet and individual situation. 9. Persons not observing all court rules and regulations are subject to loss of privileges and use of the tennis courts. PROCEDURE 1.
Indoor volleyball courts
will be available only during informal recreation times and for special
reservations. 2.
Courts will not be reserved
during peak informal recreation time 3.
Court(s) may be reserved in
advance by calling the SRS Office. Reservations will be approved by the
Director only. 4.
For walk in play, a minimum
of four players must be present. Courts may not be set up until the
minimum players are present. Players
are totally responsible for set up and break down of courts. Recreational
Sports will not guarantee that volleyball will be available without a
reservation. PROCEDURE Recreational
Sports schedules, reserves and approves use of all outdoor rec facilities
consistent with College facility use policies. In most cases, facilities,
fields and playing areas must be reserved via initial contact with the Rec
Sports office. The following
specifics apply. G1.
Tennis Courts 8.
Varsity athletic practices
and marches will have first priority for scheduling and use of the courts.

General alumni have third
priority. 11.
All other non-affiliated
groups or individuals must obtain prior permission, whereby, standard
College policy will be used. 12.

will vary based upon the academic calendar and priority use of the courts. 13.
Anyone wishing to play when
courts are not lit must call the Sports Complex. LIGHTS WILL NOT BE TURNED
ON UNTIL TWO PLAYERS REPORT TO THE COURTS. 14.
Lights will not be turned
on unless persons in categories 1-4 above, either request them, or are
currently on the courts at dusk. G2.
