Requesting A Credit Overload

Credit Overload Applications are available in the Registrar's Office, Duffy 112.

  • The typical semester credit load for students pursuing a B.S.B.A. & B.A. is 15-17 credits.

    B.S. & B.A.in Biology, Chemistry, Computer Science, Environmental Studies, Health Science, Mathematics and Physics is 16-18 credits.

  • Only in rare circumstances would a student be allowed take more than 20 credits in a given semester.

  • First-year students may petition to register for a maximum of two one-credit courses in a semester, up to the established credit limit, but may not take an additional 3 or 4-credit course.

  • Students must complete a Credit Overload Application (COA) and have a minimum semester GPA or cumulative GPA of 3.30 to be approved for a credit overload.

  • R.O.T.C students will automatically be approved to take R.O.T.C courses as overloads, but overload charges may apply.

  • Courses taken through SACHEM and other consortium programs count toward the credit maximums for each class year.

  • Registration for a credit overload will normally take place the week prior to the beginning of each semester. Exceptions may be made for courses without enrollment caps (e.g. Directed Studies, Internships, 1-credit music courses...etc) Overload charges will be applied at the time of registration in the class.
