Office Personal Installs: Upgrade from Office 2013 to Office 2016

If you have installed Office 2013 onto your personal computer through Office 365, you are eligible for a free upgrade to Office 2016. Please follow the steps below to update your software.

  1. Once you receive the prompt at the top of your Office 2013 application (Word, Excel, Outlook, PowerPoint, etc.) to “GET THE NEW OFFICE,” select the Update Office button.

    1. If you have not received the prompt yet and would like to upgrade to Office 2016, you must first Update Office 2013 to the latest version, restart your computer, and then launch an Office 2013 application to receive the prompt.
  2. At the User Account Control window that displays, asking if you want to allow this app to make changes to your PC, select the Yes button.
  3. The Installing Office window will display with a status bar, indicating the status of this installation.

    1. If you have any Office 2013 applications running during this installation, you will be prompted to close them in order to complete the installation. Save any work before closing the app(s) listed to continue the Office 2016 upgrade.
    2. Then, select the Continue button.
  4. Once the installation is finished, a window will display with a short animation letting you know that Office 2016 has been successfully installed. Select the Close button.
  5. Navigate to the Start button > All Programs (or All Apps depending on your operating system). The new Office 2016 applications will be spread out across your All Programs/All Apps section alphabetically and no longer contained to one single folder.
