C.O.B.W.E.B.: No not spiders but rather Cops On Bikes With Education for Bicyclists. What exactly is that? C.O.B.W.E.B. is a three-day police mountain bike certification course that Stonehill recently hosted. Fourteen police officers from various police agencies, including Stonehill police officer Jim Cardella, participated in a timed course in which the officers maneuvered through a series of obstacles and ultimately apprehended and handcuffed their “suspect.” For community policing, bike patrols hold many advantages such as quicker response times in urban and congested areas, officer visibility and accessibility to the public, and cost-effectiveness.
