Back in December when Nicole Bollerman won $150,000 and donated all of it to UP Academy Dorchester , it touched the hearts of many and landed her on the front-page of Stonehill Alumni Magazine.
While being interviewed for the story, the 2010 graduate expressed a wish to bring her third-grade students to campus for a visit. In April, that wish was granted as the College hosted Bollerman and her third graders. That day, the students attended a class, had lunch in the Dining Commons, met with students and also met with College President Rev. John Denning, C.S.C.
In appreciation, the 24 third graders each sent hand-written thank you notes to the College. Bollerman also sent the College a letter which can be read below.
Dear Amazing Stonehill Team,
Thank you so much for welcoming my students to campus with such open arms and hearts. I can honestly say the field trip to Stonehill was their favorite day of the year.
The kids had an absolute blast. Whether they were eating all the delicious food at the commons, taking a tour, playing basketball or meeting Father Denning, they were beaming with pride and excitement. My students will not stop talking about Mackenzie, our tour guide, the tacos, the ice cream, the huge hill, and, of course, the tee shirts. They proudly wear their Stonehill tee shirts under their uniforms nearly every single day. One student even said to me, “I wear mine to bed so I can dream about Stonehill again.” I can assure you there will be 24 scholars from my class fighting for acceptance in nine years. They will be the proud Class of 2028.
For me, the best part of this field trip was seeing my students get invested in the dream of college. They got to see college within their grasp and began to understand just how important college really is. I couldn’t help but tear up when I realized that the first ever college tee shirt most of them ever wore was Stonehill’s. I couldn’t have been a prouder alum in that moment.
You all worked so hard to give my students and me a day they will never forget. We are so grateful. Please enjoy these heartfelt (and hilarious) thank you notes. Please pass them along to all the people that made that day possible.
Thank you so much again! Nicole Bollerman, Class of 2010
