Student designer Samantha Posco '14 has earned a prestigious scholarship from The Kennedy Center American College Theater Festival.
As a recipient of the Don Childs Memorial Scholarship, Posco will have the funds to study for two weeks at the Stagecraft Institute of Las Vegas this summer where she will gain additional hands-on experience working with cutting-edge live entertainment professionals. The Childs Memorial Scholarship recognizes student designers who display exceptional talent in their field, and who exemplify the qualities of dedication, talent, and collaboration that contribute to theater excellence.
Posco was chosen from among 64 student designers in the festival's region 1 (New England & eastern New York state) for her projection design for Stonehill's production of Sharon Pollock's Moving Pictures in the fall of 2012. Posco's strong demonstration of research ability, artistic sensibility, high personal investment in her work, and her strong dedication to collaboration with her fellow artists impressed the judges.
Significantly, one of the key figures in Posco's mentorship at the College is former Stonehill Theatre Company member, James Petty '05 who is now the STC's technical director and set designer. Petty and fellow students established their own theatre company, F.U.D.G.E., in Boston
