Stonehill To Host New England Campus Farmer Summit

January 11, 2018

The Farm at Stonehill is partnering with Farm to Institution New England and the Vela Foundation to host an inaugural gathering of the campus farmer community in New England on February 10, 2018.

ONE DAY SUMMIT

Participatory in nature, the one day summit represents an exciting opportunity for students, staff, faculty, farmers, and community partners to discuss issues of food production, use, and purpose on campus and in the broader global community.

“Campus farmers who attend the summit learn from each other and from individuals working for local non-profits and small businesses about the different ways to cultivate successful living classrooms and help fuel social change, “ said Bridget Meigs, manager of The Farm at Stonehill.

WORKING TOGETHER

Students, Faculty and community partners will gain knowledge about the different opportunities available to engage with the fields of food justice, food security, the Real Food movement, sustainability, nutrition, research, and academic excellence. Attendees will exchange best practices and work together to determine how college farms can play a role in strengthening our food systems, environmentally, socially, and politically.

ATTENDEES

Among the attendees will be campus farmers from Middlebury College, Green Mountain College, Yale University, Campus Compact of Southern New England, Tompkins Cortland Community College, Unity College, Hampshire College, Sterling College, Hotchkiss, Bon Appétit Management Company, Chatham University, UMASS Nutrition Education Program, UCONN, The Farm School, Bard College.
