Stonehill Criminology Program Ranked Fourth in the Country by College Factual

October 23, 2014

Stonehill College’s criminology program was recently ranked fourth in the nation by the college-ranking website College Factual, which USA Today regularly features in its higher education coverage.

“The criminology program (at Stonehill) is one of the top programs in the country because it allows students to learn both the theory and practice of criminology. Classes in criminal justice, sociology, juvenile delinquency and the accused are supplemented with research classes to provide a comprehensive criminology education,” said College Factual reporter Megan Cahill.

Cahill also noted that Stonehill criminology majors often pursue various careers in law and public service and have one of the best average starting salaries in the country at $42,000. The average mid-career salary is $65,000.

“As a department, we challenge each student to think critically about issues related to law, crime, and justice. We do this by connecting substantive knowledge with applied experiences such as research opportunities, internships, and community-based learning. This leads our students to reflect on what matters to them and, in doing so, to be engaged in the classroom, leaders on campus, and well prepared for the options that await them after graduation. Our place on the College Factual/USA Today ranking of criminology programs is a reflection of these many individual success stories,” said Sociology & Criminology Department Chair Christopher Wetzel.

“The Criminology program at Stonehill is second to none. One of the main reasons is the dedicated professors, who always provided me with the link between the classroom and the real world, which made networking, interning and job hunting a complete success,” said Jacob Wood ’11, who is now a New Hampshire State Trooper.
