Below are the remarks from Catherine Capolupo, vice president of Enrollment Management, at the recent Topping Out ceremony for the Academic and Welcome Center.
Good Afternoon. I’m overjoyed to join you here today, for this ceremonial topping-off of our Academic and Welcome Center. I know my own joy is echoed by many in our community, who share in the anticipation and excitement, as our vision for this wonderful building becomes a tangible space outlined by concrete and steel.
The Welcome Center that will lie within these walls will host countless prospective students and families over it’s lifetime. Our future alumni will first encounter Stonehill, and our Holy Cross traditions, when they enter this building to join a tour or attend an event. This space will marry the campus visit experience with the everyday academic life of our students and faculty. In doing so, guests will encounter the heart of our busy campus, allowing them to experience, rather than observe the vibrancy of Stonehill.
In addition to joy, excitement and anticipation, we also feel great gratitude. Gratitude for the opportunity to house our welcome center in a space that is an academic cornerstone, a social and collaborative hub, and a venue to host speakers and events. Gratitude for the support, wisdom and contributions of the greater Stonehill community, the alumni, the trustees, and our design, construction and business partners. Gratitude for the work of the men and women who have literally and physically, crafted that vision into the structure which stands before us.
In less than a year, we will extend the charism of hospitality to our guests in the new welcome center. Until then, let us enjoy the process before us, as our vision becomes a graceful, beautiful and functional reality.
