Monday Morning Update

’Tis the Season: And the season is in full swing on campus! Here are just a few highlights.

Outreach: Thanks to the Chapel’s Giving Tree, 100 local families will receive gifts this Christmas.

Gift-Wrapped: Alumni volunteers, along with their families, collected and wrapped 137 gifts, which they donated to Christmas in the City, a Boston nonprofit serving homeless children. To see photos, visit here.

Coat Drive: With drop-off locations across campus and the support of Campus Ministry, the Catholic Daughters of the Americas organized a successful coat drive in support of Jordan’s Coats for Kids program.

Lessons & Carols: The Chapel Choir treated a packed Chapel of Mary to a service of scripture and song. Afterward, a large crowd gathered on the quad for the lighting of the Christmas tree. To see photos, visit here.

Serendip Serenade: The lead vocalist with the Sons of Serendip, Micah Christian ’06 delivered a stellar performance of Christmas songs in the Science Center. To read the story, visit here and for photos, visit here.

Santa’s Visit: After the Children’s Christmas Concert, performed by the Concert Ensemble, more than 100 alumni children met Santa Claus. Many proud parents and relatives attended the event. To see photos, visit here.

Secret Santa: To celebrate the birth of his first grandson, Robert Burns ’68 began writing children’s literature. His second book is Mr. Gobble Chops and the Lady in the Secret Santa, which deals with the challenges and joys of growing up. We have three copies, first come, first served. Winter Sounds: At the Concert Ensemble's Holiday Concert, Rev. James Lies, C.S.C. narrated The Night Before Christmas. Attendees dropped off non-perishable items for a local food pantry. To see photos, visit here.

Gala Celebration: Over 320 alumni, friends, neighbors, and benefactors, members of the Century Club, our largest giving club, attended a gala celebration in the Dining Commons. To see photos, visit here.

Energy-Efficient: Facilities Management has decorated campus with 23,700 lights, including at the front entrance, the Grotto, the Quad, the Clock Farm and other locations. All the lights are LED energy-efficient.

Special Stamp: This Christmas stamp depicts Donahue Hall framed by a clear starry night and picturesque snow. We have 10 sets with four stamps per set. To see the stamp, visit here. Christmas Eve: On Saturday, December 24, Christmas Eve Mass will be celebrated in the Chapel of Mary at 5:00 p.m. with Rev. John Denning, C.S.C. presiding. Campus Ministry organizes a beautiful ceremony, which attracts many local alumni, neighbors and other community members. To ensure a seat, come early.
