STONEHILL STAMP STORY

First Stamps For College
During summer 2007, the Office of Communications and Media Relations (CMR) contracted graphic design student Jamie Litchfield ’08 to complete four Stonehill images.

Litchfield had been recommended to CMR by Associate Professor of Fine Arts Maryjean V. Crowe and, given Professor Crowe’s belief in the student’s ability, the group gave Litchfield an opportunity to demonstrate her talent.

CMR asked her to produce four renderings or images of campus and she delivered them on time, on budget and to specification. During the process, she worked professionally with CMR editing minute details of the design.

"When we saw Jamie's finished product, we knew we had to do something distinctive with her work as it was so good," said Director of Communications Martin McGovern.

Student Designs Stamps
At that time, CMR had been considering the creation of a Stonehill stamp, perhaps in support of the College's comprehensive campaign Attaining the Summit

So, it ended up that Litchfield's work and CMR's explorations came together in the creation of the two stamps.  The College used www.stamps.com to create the stamps, which are U.S. Postal Service approved.

The images on both stamps are based on photos that Litchfield researched in Stonehill's Image Library.  They capture Orientation 2007 and Ace the Skyhawk in action.

Practical Experience Appreciated
"Working with CMR afforded me the opportunity to have a quality experience in collaborating with clients and meshing their creative ideas with my own. This is something that is difficult to learn in the classroom. I will  take this practical experience into the 'real world'  upon graduation in the spring," said Litchfield upon reflection.

CMR has shared Jamie’s finished work with Professor Crowe and with her Graphic Design Professor, Gary Stanton. Both of them are impressed with her growing professionalism.
