SHONDA SCHILLING TO SPEAK AT STONEHILL
The event is hosted by the Stonehill Public Relations Society, and will include a raffle to benefit SHADE. The raffle items include an autographed baseball from Curt Schilling, two beach totes, packed with healthy sun protection items, and two "sunless tan" spa packages. All proceeds will benefit SHADE. Following the presentation, Schilling will attend a luncheon with healthcare professors and students. A skin cancer and melanoma survivor, Schilling founded SHADE in August 2002 after her successful battle against melanoma. The Curt and Shonda Schilling Melanoma Foundation, headquartered in Phoenix, Arizona, is dedicated to eradicating melanoma through the education of children and the community in the prevention and detection of skin cancer. SHADE provides information on products and clothing that can protect children from harmful UV rays. Much of the money raised by the organization is used to put sun protection screens over playgrounds. Partnering with the Environmental Protection Agency, SHADE also promotes the SunWise curriculum in schools. “I am so relieved that the state of Arizona has passed a law requiring teachers to teach the SunWise program in the Classroom,” said Schilling. “Now it is time to work on the 49 other states to catch up with Arizona." “The most precious commodity deserves our most concerted efforts; our children need awareness and protection,” she said.
