ALUMNI MASTERPIECES OF ITALY TOUR

As a follow-up to its highly successful inaugural Alumni Travel Program trip to Ireland in 2007, Stonehill offers destination 2008:  Italy.

Presented by the Office of Alumni Affairs in partnership with Durgan Travel Service of Stoneham, Mass., the nine-day, seven-night Masterpieces of Italy tour begins on October 5.

With Assistant Professor of Fine Arts Allyson Sheckler serving as faculty guide, the group will visit Rome, Florence, Venice, Assisi, San Gimignanco, Siena, and many more locations.

Stopping at museums and cathedrals, the visitors will view famous works of art and learn much from Sheckler’s research and expertise. While in Vatican City, the group will visit St. Peter’s Basilica and the Sistine Chapel, home to Michelangelo’s “Creation” and the famous “Last Judgement.”

In the medieval city of Siena, a highlight includes a visit to the Basilica di San Domenico, which holds the relics of St. Catherine. San Gimignanco, often described as “the most famous small town in Italy,” offers breathtaking views of rolling hillsides, vineyards, and olive trees. And, of course, what is a trip to Venice without a walk across the Bridge of Sighs.

Reservations for Masterpieces of Italy should be made as soon as possible, as last year’s Ireland tour sold out in just two weeks. For further information or to make a reservation, please call the Office of Alumni Affairs at 508-565-1343.
