SENIOR IS SHINING EXAMPLE
Senior Hillary Weimont helped kick off the South Shore Attaining the
Summit campaign on Tuesday, January 31 by sharing her academic adventures with alumni,
benefactors, and friends at the Hingham home of Tom '77 and Liz Mulvey.
In addressing the gathering, Weimont urged potential benefactors to
continue to build the College and enrich its programs and scholarships,
"so that other students will have the same opportunities that I was
afforded."
As a Stonehill student, the Political Science and International Studies
double major :
- Spent a semester at the University of Stellenbosch in South Africa
during her junior year, volunteering with the Kayamandi Project, which
provides educational services to the local community.
- Promotes global awareness on campus by helping to create a special interest housing
group dedicated to that issue. The group also promotes study
abroad and raises money for the Kayamandi Project in Africa.
- Traveled to Washington, D.C. during her sophomore year for a two-week
course on "Power, Politics, and Policymaking," which gave her
the chance to meet lobbyists, government officials, and other
"players" in the Washington power game.
- Served as a justice program support intern at the International Institute for Justice and
Development in Boston, a nonprofit that focuses its efforts on Africa.
Weimont hopes to attend a Ph.D. program in Political Science, where she
will focus on Comparative Politics and International Relations.
"Attaining the Summit: The Campaign for Stonehill College
is all about students," explains Francis X. Dillon, vice president for
Advancement.
"Hillary Weimont is a shining example of what our students are
accomplishing with a Stonehill education. The campaign is about making
that education even stronger."
