MI ANNOUNCES ITS 2008-2010 THEME
The Martin Institute, in partnership with the College Honors Program,
Campus Ministry, and the Cornerstone Program, will spend two years studying
the forces that are transforming our world. We will seek to define
globalization, a term we hear much about but barely understand. We will
launch investigations into how the processes of modern globalization affect
the political, economic, legal, and cultural structures of nations and
societies. How, for example, does the global economy work, comma added and
how does it impact trade, labor, and social welfare systems? Can
globalization transform indigenous political movements into worldwide
struggles against threats to health care, clean water, and sustainable
development? What have the effects of globalization been in the areas of
environmental health, sustainable agriculture, and human rights? How does
globalization in the 21st century resemble other
"global" moments in human history, comma added and what can we
learn from those other eras? For
