Student Art ContestThe
Joseph THEME:
WAR HONORS AND AWARDS A $500 Honorarium will be awarded to
one student artist whose work powerfully and uniquely investigates and
responds to the theme of “War”. The
competition is open to all artistic interpretations and media, from
traditional drawing, painting and photography, to 3 dimensional sculpture,
installation work and performance. In
addition to the honorarium, the winning student will receive the status of
Martin Fellow in the Arts. Two other student artists will receive
Honorable Mentions, and their
artwork will also be placed in display in the The Martin Fellow in the Arts will chair a student committee comprised of the students receiving Honorable Mentions to organize the Martin Student Art Contest in 2008-2009. The Martin Fellow will also serve as a Juror for next year’s competition. ENTRANTS The
artwork submitted must be recent, created newly or within the past year.
No restrictions apply with regard to scale and media, but work must be
suitable for the Stonehill community, and ready to be exhibited in a
manner appropriate to the nature of the work. ARTIST
STATEMENT All
submissions must be accompanied by a 200-300 word Artist Statement
explaining the nature of the piece, its symbolism, inspirations, and why
it was meaningful to do. CRITERIA Entries
will be evaluated on the basis of originality, imagination,
depth-of-thought, suitability for the Stonehill community, and
interpretation of the subject. A
Juried Show will be held on Wednesday April 9 during the Meditations on War event to be held in Alumni
Hall
. The winning work will be
displayed during Academic Achievement Day and throughout the College’s
Honors Ceremony SUBMISSION

DATE Finalists
for the juried show will be notified by March 31.
