Application Schedule for Stonehill Students Applying to Law School

 

FIRST YEAR AT STONEHILL

 

1. Fill out a pre law advising form in Martin Institute 222.  Schedule a meeting with the Pre Law Advisor at pubertaccio@stonehill.edu

2. Take General Education courses. 

3. Take courses that interest you and that may not necessarily have to do with your future profession.


SECOND YEAR AT STONEHILL

 

1. Declare your major.

2. Take your Learning Community.

2. Enroll in courses in any department that involve writing about, devising, and deducing arguments with evidence and proofs. The more technically-inclined your major (e.g. math or science), the more important it is that you take courses that improve your writing style. You must be sure to include such courses as part of your elective selection.


THIRD YEAR AT STONEHILL

 

Study Abroad or spend a semester in Washington, D.C. or New York City.

 

Spring Semester

1. Register with LSDAS. www.lsac.org

2. Prepare for LSAT (Practice Tests, Prep Courses, Prep Book).

3. Plan to take LSAT in June- register by early May.

4. Read the Official Guide to U.S. Law Schools and consider the schools to which you might apply.

4. Think about who might write your faculty letters of recommendation. 

 

Summer

1. Send transcript to LSDAS.

2. Decide on competitive, safety and long-shot schools to which you will apply.

3. Draft a generic personal statement.

4. If possible, visit the law schools that interest you.


FOURTH YEAR AT STONEHILL

 

September - November "Early" Application Period

1. Secure application materials.

2. Talk to potential references about your interests and choices. Give them a copy of your transcript, resume, and coursework.

3. Meet with the pre law advisor early in September.

4. Take or retake the LSAT in October (only retake after discussing your previous scores with the Pre Law Advisor!)- register by late August.

5.  Bring Dean's Recommendation Forms to Julia Murteira in the Registrar's Office.

October

1. Attend Personal Statement Workshops.

2. In October, the Law School Admissions Council sponsors the Boston Law School Forum where admissions officers from more than 100 law schools are available to speak with you.

3.  Update the pre law advisor of your list of schools.

 

December 1

All applications should be sent to the law schools.

 

January 15

Send transcript with fall grades directly to law schools.

 

February 1 - April 1

Wait

 

April 1

1. Visit schools to which you have been admitted and send a deposit to one school only.

2. Update the schools at which you have been waitlisted on your latest GPA, honors, senior thesis, extracurricular activities, etc.

3.  Notify the pre law advisor of your status at each school to which you applied.
