Congressional Documents in the Library

  • Bills and Resolutions:
    The library maintains a collection of House and Senate Bills and Resolutions, starting with the 97th Congress (1981). All Congressional Bills and Resolutions are received in microfiche format. Bills and Resolutions are arranged by Congress number; then by SuDoc number. Please consult the Superintendent of Documents Cumulative Finding Aid for Congressional Bills and Resolutions, shelved on top of the microfiche storage cabinet.
  • Reports and Documents:
    Congressional Reports and Documents begin with the 88th Congress (1964). Reports and documents from the 88th Congress (1964) until the 96th Congress (1979) are in paper format. Reports and documents starting with the 96th Congress (1979) are in microfiche. At the end of each Congress, the reports and documents are complied into a collection commonly known as the SERIAL SET. The paper serial set beginning with the 88th Congress is located on the second floor in the Government Documents Collection. The microfiche serial set which beings with the 96th Congress is located in the microforms area on the first floor.
  • Hearings:
    The Congressional Hearings collection begins with the 88th Congress (1964) which is in paper format. Hearings from the 96th Congress (1979) onward are in microfiche. Hearings are arranged by Sudoc Classification.
  • Congressional Record and Congressional Record Index:
    A daily record of House and Senate floor proceedings. There are four different sections in the Congressional Record. The proceedings of (1) the House and (2) the Senate; (3) extensions of remarks; and (4) the Daily Digest. The Congressional Record Index itemizes the contents of the daily editions. The library's collection begins in 1873. Please consult HillSearch.
  • United States Statutes at Large:
    The final version of the bill passed into public or private law. The library's collection begins with the 79th Congress (1945).
