Into the Streets
“We must challenge ourselves – to go Into the Streets, not just for a day, but for a lifetime”
Into the Streets Challenge Statement, 1992
About Into the Streets
Into the Streets (ITS) is a student-led program inviting other students to go outside the walls of Stonehill and “into the streets” of our local community, to see different cultures, to meet those who struggle in society, and to help those in need (ITS Manual, 3).
ITS at Stonehill
Into the Streets is Stonehill's largest community service organziation on campus. In over 800 students participated in service through ITS, contributing over 15,000 hours to the community.
Inspired by the enduring values of a Holy Cross Education, Into the Streets offers the Stonehill Community opportunities for meaningful service experiences that challenge and teach them to be agents of social change committed to the creation of a just and compassionate world.
“Into The Streets is a community of people who want to go out into the world and make a positive difference. On a more personal level, volunteering is all about making a difference, whether that is providing food to the Brockton community or putting a smile on one person’s face. Whether the difference that we all make in our community is large or small, I feel that volunteering through ITS is also a great way to help students become better people.” -Jeff Higgins, class of 2009
