The Robert L. Rinaldi Memorial Scholarship

In June of 2008, just one year after graduating from Stonehill, Robert Rinaldi '07 received news that he had a very rare and incurable form of cancer called Synovial Sarcoma.  With the help of his friends and family he battled the disease courageously for years, ultimately succumbing on October 27, 2013, his 28th birthday.

Rob deeply touched the lives of everyone who knew him, because of this his wife and friends have established the Robert L. Rinaldi Memorial Scholarship to help preserve his memory and spirit.

The scholarship is awarded to a financially needy student from the state of New York who possesses Rob’s values, moral character, and strength.

Ryan Bajjaly '18, this year’s recipient of the Robert L. Rinaldi Memorial Scholarship
was drawn to Stonehill by the criminology program and the opportunity to play football.

“I am truly grateful and I feel honored, after reading the story of Robert’s passing, to have been granted this award.”

Upon graduation, Ryan hopes to become a New York State Trooper and a high school football coach.

Your continued generosity towards Stonehill through the Rinaldi Scholarship will allow us to support more students like Ryan who are driven to become the just and compassionate leaders of tomorrow.

“He didn’t spend one minute feeling sorry for himself, but instead bravely forged ahead with countless treatments and surgeries,
relying on his love for life and family for strength.”
