PATRICIA A. SIMON is the Executive Director of Ocean Bay Community Development Corporation (OBCDC), a community-based non-profit 501(c) (3) corporation that works with residents living in the New York City Housing Authority (NYCHA) developments in the Rockaway’s and the surrounding community, to provide opportunities for socio-economic improvement.  The goal of the agency is to assist in the revitalization of the Ocean Bay community, making it healthier, safer, better educated and more prosperous.

As the first Executive Director of OBCDC, Ms. Simon and her staff have developed and implemented a wide range of services and programs to help improve the quality of life for residents living in NYCHA developments in the Rockaway’s. Some of the programs that have been developed under her leadership are: preparation to enter the workforce, job training, financial literacy and education, volunteerism, free tax preparation with the establishment of a VITA center (volunteer income tax assistance center), and referrals to community based organizations that offer services that will help the residents become self sufficient

Prior to OBCDC, Pat led a neighborhood change initiative while working at Abyssinian Development Corporation, where community leaders, mostly women, increased their capacity to change and stabilize conditions in a six city block radius.
