A master’s degree is the minimum requirement for employment as a professional sociologist. Many Sociology majors pursue a master’s degree in social work, enabling them to function as clinical caseworkers, community organizers and licensed therapists. A doctoral degree is the requirement for teaching and research positions in colleges and universities and is necessary for senior level positions.
