Taught by supportive professors with a broad spectrum of interests, Communication classes at Stonehill are supplemented by extensive campus media resources and paired with internship opportunities that include New York publishing houses, the entertainment industry in Los Angeles and local media outlets.

Research Opportunities

Stonehill Undergraduate Research Experience

S.U.R.E. is an opportunity for students who have completed their first year at Stonehill to perform significant, publishable, full-time research under the guidance of and in collaboration with an experienced faculty researcher.

Recent Communication Research Project

  • Gabriella Jacques ’16 worked with Ron Leone, professor of Communication, on “Scorsese’s Score: Use of Music in Life Lessons.”

Eastern Communication Association Conference

Many Stonehill Communication students have participated in research with Department faculty and presented their findings at the Eastern Communication Association conference, winning prizes and being published in scholarly journals.

Recent Communication Research Project

  • Domenique Ciavattone ’13 assisted Anne Mattina, associate professor of Communication, on “Striking Women: Massachusetts Mill Workers & Rhetorical Agency, 1912”, which examined the pivotal Bread and Roses strike in Lawrence. Their work was accepted for presentation at The Bread and Roses Centennial Academic Symposium.

Internship Opportunities

Stonehill in Los Angeles

One of our newest and most exciting internship programs is in Los Angeles. Students in this program live and work in Los Angeles for 14 weeks and have interned at CBS, Disney, Focus Features, MGM, Warner Games, Warner Music and smaller “boutique” PR and talent management firms. Other internships take students to New York, London and Dublin.

  • LA Internship is a semester-long program in Los Angeles offered by the Office of Career Services and the Communication Department.
  • Career Services staff members regularly work with Communication Department faculty to present programs on career-building skills, including professional and dining etiquette, resume and cover letter writing, and interview techniques.
