The Cornerstone Program of General Education
A Well-Rounded Liberal Arts Education
A flexible, student-centered curriculum completed by all Stonehill students, our Cornerstone Program of General Education connects knowledge with intellectual engagement, core communication skills, leadership, social justice and a focus on personal growth and discovery.
By combining the Cornerstone Program with specific programs of study, we equip students with the foundational knowledge, diversity of experience and spirit of curiosity that are hallmarks of a well-rounded liberal arts education.
Our programs in the arts, sciences and business administration emphasize deep understanding and effective practice. While students focus on requirements within their major or minor, they also have the flexibility to explore academic opportunities unique to their own educational plans, including:
- Local internships
- Semester-long domestic internships
- International internships
- Study abroad
- Interdisciplinary concentrations
- Community-based learning
- Directed study
- Independent research

Our faculty members promote ethical reflection, an appreciation for diversity, dexterity in teamwork and creativity in collaboration. Our approach instills demonstrable competency in skills that are crucial to success.
In the pursuit of knowledge, we value integrity and compassion, and this foundation serves graduates well in all post-baccalaureate pursuits.
Completing the Stonehill academic program is an exciting way to experience human and natural diversity, to build critical thinking and leadership abilities and to discover the value of civic engagement. Our curriculum prepares students for graduate studies and careers that both enrich the student and benefit society.
Recognizing that each person is unique, our program allows students the opportunity to choose much of their own academic path, honoring our commitment to free inquiry and social responsibility in the tradition of Catholic higher education.
Stonehill students develop knowledge, competencies and values, preparing them for a life of learning and responsible citizenship.
