Fall Orientation focuses on information and resources that are at the forefront of helping you adjust to your new home. A combination of social activities, educational sessions, and free time combine to create an essential program which encourages you to fully engage in our campus community and gets you ready for the start of classes.
Fall Orientation: August 23-26
Fall Orientation officially begins with the Welcome Mass for all first-year students and their families. The Welcome Mass takes place at 4 p.m. in the Sally Blair Ames Sports Complex on Saturday, August 23. Fall Orientation ends on Tuesday, August 26 with the Academic Convocation.
Move-in Day: Saturday, August 23
Move-in Day for new students will be Saturday, August 23. A specific time window will be included in your housing assignment email which will be sent to the student’s Stonehill College email account before August 1st. Before you pack, please be sure to review our website for a list of items that we suggest you bring to campus as well as a list of items that are not allowed in the residence halls.
A tentative Fall Orientation schedule can be found here.
Tasks to Complete
While it is summer, there are some tasks that we ask all first-year students to complete before they return to campus in August. Please make sure you have completed the following three items:
1. Take the Strong Interest Inventory
The Strong Interest Inventory® will help you to explore how your interests influence decisions about your major(s)/minor and potential occupations. The Strong® can provide some direction for you if you are unclear about your decisions. If you have already chosen your major(s)/minor or have a goal in mind for an occupation, the Strong® also can assist you in confirming your decisions.
2. Explore StoryCorps
One of the objectives of the First-Year Experience course (APL 001) is encouraging you to discover and develop your own story. Instead of a required textbook, this course will use select recordings from StoryCorps. Over the next month, explore the StoryCorps website and discover a story that you relate with or find enlightening or inspiring. You will be asked to discuss the story you selected during the first class meeting of the course.
3. Complete AlcoholEdu
Embodying Stonehill’s mission to educate the whole person, we strongly value your well-being and want you to have the information and awareness necessary to empower you to make well-informed and healthy behavioral choices with alcohol. All first-year students are required to complete Part 1 of AlcoholEdu for College by August 22.
Keep an eye out for an email that will be sent to your Stonehill account the week of July 21 with instructions and login information.
4. Complete the Community Engagement Day Survey
During Fall Orientation, there will be a day dedicated to both engaging with, and learning about the surrounding communities of Easton and Brockton. In order to provide you with the most meaningful experience, we ask that you complete a short survey.
